Iroquois WISE Coalition,
a not for profit, 501(c) 3 organization,
was formed in 2004. In developing our mission, we
determined the needs of our surrounding neighborhoods and began reaching out
to children and youth as we learned how families and individuals in our
community go without proper food, shelter, and essential medical care every
day due to a variety of factors including: low incomes, inability to
maintain steady employment due to illness and physical disabilities, job
loss, injuries, age, domestic violence or divorce. Together we will be able
to help many of these families and individuals to not only meet essential
daily needs but to work toward a brighter future with programs that supply
some of their essential needs.

Children,
teens and the hungry appear to be at the most risk and we have made this our
focus over the past three years. We have collaborated with EarthWorks at
Capuchin Soup Kitchen on Detroit's near eastside to develop the Growing
Healthy Kids program. This program is for children between the ages of 6-12
and they are taught to plant, cultivate and cook healthy foods for
themselves and their families, while protecting the environment by growing
foods organically.
