Iroquois Christ Lutheran church
sanctuary has 13 sets of stained glass
windows-highly descriptive of Bible stories and Christian themes
vibrant in color. The windows donated by church members, surround the
congregation creating a constant picture of Christ's life and the
congregation's ministry. Additional windows appear in the Narthex area
of the church and some lead glass windows have now been recently
dedicated.
Some
of the original 13 windows
have figures painted in the Renaissance, and are in pictorial style as
was popular in the nineteenth and early twentieth centuries. These
Baroque windows all tell stories from the bible. The Lily window
located in the chancel of the church and the Nativity panel of windows
are this style. In total the windows are highly descriptive of the life
of the church reflecting the name Christ Church. Also shown is a
pictorial style representing growth of the congregation and a new
design made using a lead glass window in our narthex area. This window
was designed in 2006.
The
Angel window depicted on the next page is a popular sight at Christmas
time The church and its windows are well-known and have become a place
to visit during Historic Detroit Church tours and by students
researching windows crafted in the Arts & Crafts era. The sanctuary
is also a favorite site for weddings. A Photo Gallery of the windows is
