Member ELCA

Concerned members of St. Mark Lutheran Church in Detroit held a meeting of the East End Mission Society on February 8, 1911 to establish an English language congregation of the Missouri Synod. Services were previously held in German. A Constitution was adopted on May 3 and the first worship service was held on June 11, 1911. The Ladies Aid Society was organized, which still exists as the Women's Association. Our parsonage was also built. The church was built and dedicated in 1913, and the parsonage house was built in 1928.

In 1977, the congregation resigned from the Missouri Synod and joined the English district of the Association of Evangelical Lutheran Churches. Iroquois Christ along with other AELCA congregations joined the Evangelical Church in America, ELCA, in 1988. The parish house basement was renovated in 1992 as the Cornerstone School, Iroquois Campus. Additional work in 1998 completed the grammar school. This year we celebrate our 95th year as a dynamic congregation. Today we flourish as a diverse congregation of 130, where its multicultural members share a common understanding of the mission of Christ.
