PHOENIX BALLERS

BasketBall2

BASKETBALL & HOMEWORK

Currently the WISE Phoenix Ballers are playing in a league (SDRCL) in which we have two teams. The youth are 14 and under, and youth 15-18. Both the teams are doing well. The younger team has been undefeated. This league season ended in April and while the Ballers did not win the tournament finals, they completed the 2006 year in second place. During the summer they began playing with another league. King Solomon on 7 Mile. The teams usually practice Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Fridays, unless the church is having a special event. This summer they will have basketball practice on Thursdays and Saturdays. Last year the team members were asked to pay $50 to help support the program. Attempts to obtain grant funding for the fall and winter season is ongoing. Money is always needed for traveling, uniforms, and other expenses of the program. The SDRCL league was paid by sponsors and teams up to this year when the funding diminished.

Our computer room to provide the youth with a source for research and typing term papers. This has proven to be an  aid in improving grades and helping the students maintain a passing grade. We anticipate a greater improvement in the skills that are needed for our teens to compete in the world of computer technology.
